Artist statement
My work is about the relationship between Truth, Reality and Language. I think language is not enough to interpret reality and to communicate truth. I am interested in what is arbitrary about language and miscommunication; therefore, affecting social relations. This is a starting point for my artworks. There is a continuous thread through some artworks that merges in the abstract tradition and conceptual art. Written language or text, is a visual image that does not coincide with the actual meaning of the word, it is primarily an abstracted figure. For me text is a recourse sometimes used as image and other times carries meaning. But not always the text is the morphology that I use to talk about crisis of content, there are symbolic elements that remind us the world of language like, billboards, structures, pencils, signs, abstractions, empty spaces etc. The essence of the work has two viewpoints: one is philosophical, about Truth and Reality, and the other semiotic, about language and art itself. The meaning, in a philosophic, semiotic and artistic sense is the most important thing for me, and the essential matter of my work.
