Artist statement
Art should move you from your normal mode of consciousness so that you may consider yourself differently in relation to the world. I have come to the recent conclusion that art also needs to address being human in some way. People have an intimate relationship to material, one that is often taken for granted, and realized at the subconscious level of awareness. I like to play with notions of consciousness by using materials that are familiar to us and arrange them in an abstract way, but with an easy visual entry point for the viewer. Superstition, the ability to love and be loved, being emotional to a fault, our infatuation of ourselves through technological advancement, our capacity for knowledge vs. our capacity for apathy, and our ability to measure things and have long memory all come into play with what I have been working on the last few years.
