Artist statement
Coming out of a decade-long PTSD-induced dissociative amnesia, I find myself in a state of “buffering” - waiting for my body to find reconnection to her spirit. Through the exercise of self-compassion I hope to heal my body and mind to make it a welcoming, and even familiar environment to entice my spirit back to me by celebrating my wildest creative impulses. In my interdisciplinary practice, I use various mediums such as drawings, ceramics, sculpture, assemblage, writing, performance, and social media to explore the connection between mind and body through the focus on how this connection is our closest form of time travel, the transformational power of storytelling, chronic illness, autonomy, privilege, and hierarchies in the arts. In my current body of work I am responding to the minimizations onto my autonomy through the act of malicious compliance and the act of playing pretend. By practicing within the space I was allowed I provide my ambitions the environment to create as much autonomy for myself through the celebration of my most wildest creative impulses by diving into the fantasy of a successful career. Using dioramas, miniatures, performance, writing, and digital platforms I aim to deliver believability within the subversion of the traditional gallery experience featuring my dream exhibitions. This series dives into the exploration of chronic illness, the significance of the mind body connection, reality vs fantasy of digital spaces, hierarchies and power...
