Artist statement
I understand space as time experienced through the senses of the body. Depending on the situation in which I am placed, I reconstruct place through two distinct temporal speeds. In urban environments, I abstract fleeting impressions that pass rapidly, translating moments of light, movement, and fragmented encounters into shifting visual forms. The functional structure of the city circulates at a speed faster than the body can fully comprehend. As a result, urban experience often appears blurred and abstract. By transforming these fleeting perceptions into drawings and sculptural forms, I momentarily hold what would otherwise disappear, allowing viewers to sense the fluid abstraction formed before perception settles. In contrast, my work in natural settings focuses on slower temporal conditions. Landscapes contain layered narratives, particularly where human presence intersects with geological time. I research and reconstruct relationships between people and land, revealing how memory accumulates through material, history, and environment. Through duration, observation, and spatial memory, these works explore how we relate to space over time and how stories emerge through long-term engagement. Using materials found within each site, I reconstruct spatial relationships to emphasize the connection between body, place, and accumulated history. By moving between fast and slow temporal speeds, my practice explores how space is shaped through both immediate perception and...
