Artist statement
The paintings and titles are a responses pop cultural references such as the literary hit of the early 80s Bright Lights Big City, stills from movies so bad they are good like Fritz Kiersch’s film Tuff Turf, and contemporary throwback fashion. Subject matter which is superficial, vapid and deeply rooted in pleasure, relief, and procrastination through vanity, drugs, and nightlife. I am fascinated by the vapid cynical tone from early 80s literature and film which has so much resemblance to our contemporary culture today.
