Artist statement
These artworks were produced during a period of sheltering in place, a response to the need for safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. As plans for the foreseeable future were canceled, I sought solace in the world of photography. I used my extensive collection of images captured during what once seemed like normal life to reconnect with the outside world. As a photography-based artist, I approach my craft with precision and intent. My passion lies in chronicling some of nature’s most captivating elements. I’m especially drawn to flowers and clouds. Whether sourced from remote journeys or familiar locales, these images punctuate my portfolio and underscore my commitment to elevating everyday natural wonders to art, challenging observers to see the world through a more discerning lens. I distort, reflect and merge my images to create otherworldly vistas. I invite the viewer to join me in an altered reality of beauty and symmetry. These pieces are expansive explorations of an unbounded sky adorned with flowers. The titles of these pieces indicate the locations where the cloud photographs were taken, while the flowers were sourced from my own garden. These artworks are lustrous face-mounted acrylic prints–deep and shiny, but separated from the viewer behind a protective layer.
