Artist statement
I’m drawn to mediums that are difficult to predict, that refuse to stick to my plan and keep me surprised. Gravity has become a collaborator in my process. By slowly slumping sheets of glass into ceramic forms in the kiln, I create portals that can act as windows, mirrors, or both. The drooping, fragile curves that result feel like vulnerability made visible. The forms suggest bodies without settling into a single identity: part mask, creature or protective shell. I recognize something of my own queerness in this refusal to settle neatly into an assigned form, and in the possibility of occupying more than one state at once.
