Artist statement

Kevin Byrd is a self-taught abstract expressionist artist based in New York. At a young age he found his passion by drawing and sketching from comic books. He was an art student in the local High School. His passion for art continued while serving in the Arm Forces by sketching other solders. After serving he became a Correction Officer for the NYS Department of Corrections, while a Correction Officer he received a degree in Behavioral Science at Mercy College, “I paint to express my moral and political views and is influence by my surroundings". My artwork is unique and different from traditional artist. I use color and form to create emotions and leave the observer to view his/her own opinion. I'm influence by artist like Jackson Pollock and other artist during the abstract expressionist movement. I employ colorful paint with the use of a palette knife and the stroke of a paint brush to develop my own style. I hope to capture the imagination of the observer and touch their souls and create an experience that will make a positive change in their mind site.
