Artist statement
My work explores the relationship between bodies and landscapes through ecological, emotional, and historical frameworks. I create surreal, symbolic paintings often inhabited by female figures caught in fraught dynamics or haunting, repetitive actions. These scenes reflect my interest in how nature is experienced through the body and how landscape has been projected upon, particularly through gendered, mythical, and colonial lenses. I often return to wetlands as subjects. The way coastal landscapes hold different timescales within them fascinate me. The layered temporality of geologic, human, and tidal time offers a way to explore transformation, grief, and memory. I work from both observation and imagination, using painting as a way to explore how places feel rather than how they appear.
