Lives and works in Pomona, California

Artist statement

My ceramic sculptures depict future ancestral communities resisting to participate in the patriarchal systems that came before them. I find inspiration from Mesoamerican steles and apply the relief carving technique onto vessels to record moments of connection, friendship and solidarity. I challenge the viewer by combining attitude driven body languages and soft pastel outfits. I’m interested in fashion as a form of protest by integrating Southern California subcultures that are rooted in working class rebellion. My palette comes from sun bleached Los Angeles neighborhoods, and my pattern designs derive from ceramic tiles lining sidewalks in Jalisco, Mexico. I create these worlds to process my grief, anger and trauma concerning issues related to full bodily autonomy, identity and assimilation.
