Lives and works in Beijing, China
Artist statement
I work with gouache, tempera, and oil pastels. I paint to explore the possibilities of colour in painting. I want my art to be full of imagination—imagination of colour, imagination of “how to paint”; that is what intrigues me most. I believe every colour has its own personality, like a person. What interests me most is the relationship between colours. For me, the process of painting is about awakening every colour and every stroke you put down, rather than making a beautiful painting. At certain stages, I ask myself, “Is this working?” “Is something happening?” Then there always comes a moment when you must let the painting lead and follow its inner laws—before it’s too late, before it’s overcooked.
