Larisa Sitar
Lives and works in Bucharest, Romania
Artist statement
Larisa Sitar (b. 1984) is a Bucharest-based artist whose dynamic practice moves between photography, drawing, sculpture, and site-specific installation. Blending digital innovation with analogue craft, she creates visually striking works that explore how social and cultural values conveyed through architecture and design have shifted in response to changes in the political and economic landscape. This inquiry has led to an explicit focus on the intersection of architecture and art in her practice, centered on ornament as a sociopolitical statement. Her choice of materials is driven not only by aesthetic considerations, but, more importantly, by their ability to evoke specific cultural associations. Rooted in cultural memory, her pieces transform familiar forms into powerful narratives.
