Luca Staccioli
Lives and works in Milan, Italy
Artist statement
Luca Staccioli's practice moves across sculpture, photography, video, drawing and collage. He investigates the post-functional life of things — forcing everyday items to drift away from the functions, usability and performative demands imposed upon them. Working with cheap, vernacular and ubiquitous objects and images, Staccioli explores their sculptural and pictorial implications, questioning their active role in encoding desires, scripting behavior, and producing forms of domestication of bodies and subjectivities. Through a processuality that includes alteration, multiplication, stratification, material translation, objects and images are detached from their operative logic — which begins to fray. Caught on the threshold between function and residue, things enter states of suspension, leaving behind their role as codifiers of gestures, habits, and gazes. They become matrices for new bodies, opening spaces for a re-negotiation of daily patterns and choreographies.
