Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Artist statement

My work is based on vestiges. Memory lapses, natural and domestic landscapes from which me and my family were part of, memories refreshed by photo albums, homemade videos filmed by my mom and everyday objects that make up those sceneries, became central themes of my work. I also like to flirt with the life of strangers. I often visit the flea markets in downtown Rio de Janeiro, searching for faces and stories from the 70s (period of my childhood), extracting symbols and signs from the objects and images I find. All those elements edited in the present, in a game of pictorial choices, make up the scenes and the ficcional characters present in the paintings. In “Boneca de Papel” (Paper Doll), title of my new project, I start with that which is common to me, cutout and collage. Practices I considere ludic for its evocations of play, in addition to its customary gestures from the fashion universe.
