Artist statement

My name is Marisa Thornburg. I was born in 1981 in Detroit, Michigan. All my life I have tried to fit into a society that does not understand me, along the way I have been lucky enough to make art. Art makes me feel alive. Art heals me. I no longer try to fit in, embracing who I am is now a part of my art process. There is a piece of me in every painting.
