Artist statement
As an artist, Marius Melissas is driven by the belief that art must resonate with the rhythms of nature, both in spirit and substance. His practice is rooted in abstract expression, where intuitive gestures and organic materials converge to evoke the universal flow of creation and transformation. Melissas perceives the creative process as akin to nature’s cycle: a force that undergoes adaptation, deconstruction, and renewal to manifest its truest form. His work reflects a profound commitment to sustainability and ecological responsibility. Through experimentation, he crafts his own paints using regenerative and eco-conscious materials and reimagines traditional techniques and folk crafts. By integrating discarded production waste and natural pigments such as microalgae, Melissas fuses material innovation with a regenerative ethos. For him, materials and process are inseparable from the artwork’s spirit; the natural element present in both forms a cohesive whole. Rooted in abstract expressionism, his paintings transcend conceptual or narrative constraints, inviting viewers to engage intuitively. Detached from imposed meanings, Melissas’ art channels a shared energy that connects us to nature’s essence. His works do not serve as vessels for specific messages but as spaces to feel a dialogue between the unseen and the tangible. Through his practice, Melissas affirms his belief that art, like nature, is a continuous process of becoming—fluid, evolving, and deeply connected to...
