Artist statement
My current work explores what it means to exist in a quickly changing world, one shaped by rapid technological advancement, systems of control and the quiet violence of the times. Quiet Violence it the title I have given to my current body of work and what it explores. The title I believe defines the present moment, especially now where forms of power and control have become almost invisible. This body of work is my attempt to think through these conditions. To examine how images shape our perception , how power operates silently through spectacle and how painting can function as a form of resistance within a world that has been designed to keep us docile and consuming. Borrowing from news imagery, literal sources and lived experience, I work in acrylic, oils and pastels to create scenes that blur the familiar with the uncanny, where everyday moments can carry slightly sinister or suggestive undertones.
