Artist statement

I am a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, installation, and video. Born in Guanajuato, Mexico, my upbringing was split between Mexico and the borderlands of South Texas. Growing up navigating contradictory geographies shaped my understanding of space not as fixed, but as a fragmented condition negotiated through transformation and adaptation. I am interested in subjects, materials, processes, and forms drawn from transitory sites that are entangled within specific socioeconomic realities. Whether it is the borderlands, the factory, the informal street market, or the urban landscape, I look to adaptive material and spatial practices that emerge within these environments and the ways they retain traces of movement, time, memory, heritage, and material intelligence. Oftentimes ephemeral, but always enduring, these sites question relationships between mobility and containment, improvisation and order, provisionality and permanence. Through sculpture and installation, I stage formal tensions that reveal the hybrid vernaculars produced through constant material slippages, adaptations, and transformations. I foreground entropy as a method for considering how the self adapts to, resists, and reshapes the infrastructures that seek to contain daily life. My work examines how improvised material forms can register the pressures, negotiations, and instabilities that shape relationships between space, body, movement, and material.
