Artist statement
My practice is founded in an ongoing exploration of my narrative inheritance. In navigating my family legacy, I research my ancestors, intergenerational trauma, and the use of stories as power enforcers, architects of truth, and disrupters of status quo. Through reflectivity I attempt to reconcile memory and history, interrogate and take ownership of my heritage, and embrace my own power as transmitter/weaver/storyteller. My work exists somewhere between the material decay of commodity and the mythological realm of Pegasus. In recent months I have narrowed my focus to consider, ‘what does one do with the leftovers of a so-called “American Dream”?,’ and broadened the conceptual and material possibilities of my practice by accepting fragmentation through the idea of entanglement.
