Artist statement

Chasing images along the traces, through the wires, and into the airwaves of our digital wonderlands, I tour the abstract alien landscape of the networked electronic imaging apparatus that suffuses contemporary daily life. Toying with simple electronics, computational analysis, analog signal processing, databending, video-synthesis, and alternative formats I engage with(in) the durational space of electronic imaging’s (im)material form. My process foregrounds technological vision’s tendency towards informationally adjacent seeing, accelerating pace of transmission, and a reduction of images to informational packets that can be computed, parsed, copied, and sent on their way. I am interested in the expansive roles that photography, and by extension all observational technology, plays in our digital-media saturated contemporary society. The design of the systems through which we sense, measure, communicate and consume visual information must be considered as political questions. Examining how these technologies function at a fundamental level shines a metaphorical light on their role and function in larger social, cultural and political contexts.
