Lives and works in Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Artist statement
In my work I aim to create new ways to see and meditate on nature in a world of rapid change. I paint from impressions and energies that are abstract and real. I work with instinct and experiment with materials, while focusing on a shifting integration of parts- composition, texture, space, symbolism and color. While living and working in Costa Rica, I draw deeply from my environment — an emboldened visual language has rooted from the essence and expression of life here. From natural systems and elemental forces, to the engagement of all senses. Underlying my work is often a tension: the abundance of biodiversity and the threatened species and natural resources vulnerable to development. This duality is ever-present in a landscape where the richness of nature is both celebrated and imperiled by human behavior.
