Lives and works in Brunico, Autonomous Province of Bolzano – South Tyrol, Italy
Artist statement
I am a visual artist from South Tyrol, Italy, working primarily with oil painting and figurative imagery. My practice explores identity, belonging, cultural memory, and the ways in which people construct and present themselves through symbols. Growing up in a bilingual border region shaped my understanding of identity as something unstable and negotiated. My family’s connections to South Tyrol and Ticino, as well as its history under Fascist policies against linguistic minorities, inform my interest in language, nationality, and regional belonging. My paintings combine portraits and self-portraits with coats of arms, consumer products, religious imagery, landscapes, clothing, screens, and references to popular culture. These elements function as markers of place, class, memory, and social identity. Rather than aiming for realistic representation, I use simplified figures, compressed spaces, strong outlines, and saturated colours. My visual language draws from mural painting, poster design, pop art, and the aesthetics of rap, metal, and contemporary online culture. Through these works, I examine how personal experience intersects with larger historical and political structures, and how conflicting identities can coexist within the same image.
