Artist statement

In my practice I attempt to meld the tactile and the structural to delve into the complexities of memory, nostalgia, and the paradoxes of strength and fragility. At the heart of my recent work lies an exploration of concrete as a post-Soviet material, a brutalist demonstration of strength, masking the fragility underneath. Just as concrete needs support to withstand stress, so do our memories. They require structure and care. Memories are wrapped in images, like buildings are wrapped in scaffolding. Through my art, I aim to capture that familiar feeling of nostalgia, that wistful longing for a past that may be both real and imagined, fragmented yet cohesive. I find inspiration in the architecture of memory - both personal and collective—how our recollections construct themselves like buildings, with layers of meaning, codes, hidden chambers and foundations.
