Nick Ivins
Lives and works in London, UK
Artist statement
Nick Ivins was born in 1966 in Pembury, Kent. In 2026 he received his MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, and was offered his first solo exhibition at the Newlyn Gallery, Cornwall, in 2025. He currently lives and works in London and Lyme Bay, Dorset. I am an observer of wealth at leisure. My oil paintings, ostensibly about the indulgent pleasures of paint and painting, reveal the hidden laissez-faire: a sun-bleached Aegean pool, a languid lunch, private view at an art gallery, or society revelries. Works negotiate a line between satirical critiques of privilege and excess, and simple acquiescence. Whilst subjects may be performing for the viewer, it is an art of seduction that lures us into their world. Meanwhile, the artist’s role in the production of luxury collectibles cannot be denied: the canvases themselves becoming objects of transaction, to be hunted and collected.
