Lives and works in Kolkata, West Bengal, India

Artist statement

An artist- curator (http://nobinagupta.blogspot.com) and founder of Disappearing Dialogues Collective (www.disappearingdialogues.org), in the past few years I have aimed to initiate interdisciplinary interactions contextually rooted to socio-spatial realities. I have developed a platform - for engaging different communities, institutions, social groups and generations through interactive artworks, research, documentation, mapping, and collaborative activities on conservation of cultural, social and environmental losses, sediments and memories intrinsic to a city or a region. It has been initiated within the Changpa tribes in Ladakh in the Changthang valley, within the Gond, Bhil in Madhya Pradesh within the Baghel and Bundelkhand regions, and presently in peri-urban communities of the East Kolkata Wetlands, a Ramsar convention site in West Bengal, India. Working on issues that are contextually rooted to socio-spatial realities my visual language comments on the anthropogenic activities, ecology and sustainability. It raises vital questions, reimagines relationships. Initiating co-creation to break norms and boundaries to explore and disseminate research and community based learnings, focusing on process, practice and everyday life. My art practice enquires into current environmental challenges, socio-cultural inequalities, politics of power, dilemmas of human behaviour and psychology. Through grounded experiences and realisations, it triggers public to move out of comfort...
