Artist statement
In my practice, I often create distinct fictional personas for each project to explore different facets of extreme characters—those who inspire me through their intensity, strangeness, illness, malevolence, or singularity. By embodying these figures, I create a deliberate distance between myself and the work, allowing access to perspectives that might otherwise remain unreachable. This approach helps me transform raw inspiration—or even irritation—into a fully articulated simulation of possible realities. I investigate the interplay between materiality and context, exploring how form and concept merge and transform one another. My work examines the decay and adaptation of symbols—the ways their original meanings are lost, altered, or recontextualised as they encounter the forces of entropy and survival. A symbol may disintegrate, only to reterritorialize and take on new life within a different form and material reality. In essence, I trace how symbols survive by transforming through their journeys of form, context, and material change. My practice engages with the phenomenon of iconoclash, examining how symbols are dismantled and reimagined, their meanings reshaped by context, ideology, and fashion.
Artwork
- “Gymnastik Pegasus” is a chapter of my long-term project: an artificial sports equipment brand that exposes how design can operate as camouflage, even as a weapon. The work reveals how seductive, polished forms can conceal violence, turning aesthetics into a mask that hides disturbing realities. The objects are deliberately grotesque yet alluring: a gym horse reconstructed from the decapitated body of Pegasus, or a fractured emblem drilled with handles into its wings. Despite their brutality, they retain the sheen of good design—appearing functional, desirable, almost irresistible., 2021. multimediainstalation
