Artist statement
I believe that beauty can be found in almost anything and art can be created using almost any materials. I enjoy exploring unconventional methods to create images, and I hope my work will encourage viewers to find beauty in everyday things that might otherwise go unnoticed. I have used children's toys, simple household items, and GPS tracks to create paintings. My most recent paintings are inspired by road repair marks. These tar lines that are created to prevent roads from further cracking are often ignored but I see them as fascinating marks. I apply paint directly onto the tar lines on the road, then place a canvas on the painted lines and drive over the canvas with a car. The weight and pressure enhances the texture and quality of the marks in a way that I find interesting and beautiful. I further refine the works by cropping and painting back into the surfaces.
