Lives and works in Berlin, Germany

Artist statement

Philip Seibel (b. 1980 in Hagen, Germany, living and working in Berlin) is a sculptor with a background in instrument making and a deeply research-based practice. He received his MFA from Kunstakademie Düsseldorf as a Meisterschüler of Peter Doig in 2011. His practice is driven by the desire to create a presence of something that remains hidden. The works tread a fine line between industrial production and traditional craft techniques, and straddle the boundary between fetishized objects and those whose functionality is concealed. They allude to something to which we are denied access, but which allows us to imagine the potentiality of what is obscured. Recent solo exhibitions include: Thee Stooj Galerie ov Fine Arts, Berlin, DE (2026); Lo Brutto Stahl, Basel, CH (2025); Lo Brutto Stahl, Paris, FR (2024); Magenta Plains, NY, USA (2023); Union Pacific, London, UK (2022). Group exhibitions have taken place at: GRPM at Ilenia, London, UK (2026); Galerie Noah Klink at Tanya Leighton, Berlin, DE (2025); François Ghebaly, NY, USA (2023); Braunsfelder, Cologne, DE (2022).
