Artist statement

I create art as a form of remembrance and transformation. My work is rooted in the stories of the Afrodiaspora and LGBTQ communities. These stories carry resilience, spirit, and belonging. Through painting, sculpture, and performance, I build portals that hold ancestral memory while opening visions for the future. Braids are a central motif in my practice. They carry my African and Scandinavian roots and symbolize the way time, identity, and spirit intertwine. By braiding together forms, colors, and materials, I weave worlds where myth and ritual are present and alive. Alchemy guides my process. I approach pigments, papier-mâché, shells, and wood not only as materials but as living elements. Each carries its own essence and is transformed through touch into something new. This process echoes a spiritual principle: nothing is destroyed, only changed. My works are invitations into immersive environments. They are spaces where audiences can sense the unseen threads that connect us. I want people to encounter the cycles of life and death, the power of story, and the responsibility that comes with sacred knowledge. Every piece asks the same question: how can art open pathways for healing, empowerment, and collective memory?
