Priscilla Benyahia
Lives and works in Paris, France
Artist statement
Priscilla Benyahia (born in 1999) is a Franco-Algerian artist based in Paris, developping work intersecting installation, sculpture, image, and publishing. Her practice evolves through her fascination with archives and language as sites of resistance, interrogating the space that separates the literal from irony and wordplay, creating shifts in meaning that enable the deconstruction of dominant narratives.Through images, objects, and sound, she entertwines and reinvents the ways in which stories are preserved, transformed, concealed, or interrupted as they move across bodies, generations, and systems of knowledge. Her materials are chosen for their capacity to layer meaning or for their historical resonance. Hair and copper, two materials central to her practice, function as transmitters of data, DNA, memory, and forms of infinite connection. Their material properties allow her to explore the relationships between individual and collective memory, transmission and rupture, intimacy and collective histories.
