Artist statement

I believe that creative expression is an elemental impulse of human nature and essential to humanity and am committed to the transcendent power of music and visual arts and the potency of awe. In tandem with my career as a composer, on a deep personal level to cope with the staggering complexities and emotions of these times, I’ve re-embraced an earlier passion for visual arts, transitioning to explore a multidisciplinary artistic vision of architecturally conceived ephemeral installations infused with illumination and music. I am interested in presenting encounters with sculptural forms and immersive spaces that seem both familiar and unfamiliar. Using translucence and illumination to convey a sense of ephemerality and emotional logic – juxtapositions of balance, concealment, disclosure, and suspended motion become energetically charged and emotionally animated. My work also touches upon the primal need for shelter, the sanctity of spaces, and the power of contemplative environments. With the infusion of music and video, I explore a visceral interior perspective and temporality of music, inviting the viewer into the experience of the installations on an intimate scale. Through my work, I am seeking to tap into a deep primal fluidity of subliminal references to evoke emotional responses of awe and compassion, and to inspire a sense of transformative and unifying spiritual energy.
