Artist statement

As a Queer Black Artist and Creative Director. My work is an exploration in healing and confrontation. The healing of one's past misjudgements and the confrontation of those misjudgements. Life can be beautiful but also very dark. Dance allows me to cultivate unconventional ideas of creative expression and create safe spaces for the conscious conversion about humanity. My work is inspired by my life as a black gay man growing up in a world that limits our human capacity to be free. I am committed to bringing to light the complexity of masculinity; especially the parts so many of us are forced to hide in the shadows to protect ourselves. My work confronts a world dominated by masculine toxicity and explores the questions: where is it safe for a man to express, to be gentle, to cry, to be seen? As a trained classical Ballerino versed in rooted movements of the African Diaspora, my choreographic stories share life from the non-traditional perspective while building trust and empathy with new audiences.
