Artist statement
I have spent my life working to help people heal from all kinds of social and emotional ills in the positions that I have held as a specialized foster parent for juvenile teens, ordained pastor, police chaplain and finally taking in mentally ill, homeless and addicted people and children into my own home. Having retired from all that, it is my time to develop the art that has lived within me for all these years. And as I do, I find my art revolves around the social struggles and humanity experience by the people that I served. While my art shows up in very traditional ways, it seems to almost always seek out the pain and passions of people and animals as they navigate life in our shared world. I thought as the years went by that I was neglecting my art. I now realize that I had been doing art in my head and heart all these years and learning what I needed to put the depth into my artwork that will express the human condition that I experienced in my work with people in need. But now...I am all in. I love sculpting with clay and now with marble and Rodin is my inspiration. I am determined to find every opportunity to work and be with other artists and to develop my art. However, I live in a one bedroom senior apartment building and need all the studio time I can get. I covet any opportunity to deepen my work and my techniques and there is no limit to the willingness I have to work hard and do what it takes.
