Artist statement
During the last three years, utilizing acrylic paint, brushes, and fortified by a great deal of coffee, I have worked night and day to produce the body of work that you see here. While creating works that were hyper-realistic and photorealistic, I became interested in rendering pattern and design; especially the organic patterns found in nature. As I continued to work, boundaries were pushed to include other patterns, such as those found in an antique chandelier I discovered in Washington State. Utilizing the skills and techniques I’ve developed over the years, I’ve created a body of work that implores the viewer to examine the minute details in the image they see before them. The pieces included here are not just colors and values on a canvas, but they are also memories of late night dance parties, paint covered clothing, and many sleepless nights. While each unique piece has little pockets of intricate and beautiful colors and brushstrokes, when viewed from a distance, everything comes together to make a completely different image that is equally as beautiful.
