Artist statement
My blue color up-bringing taught me to explore my surroundings through making things with my hands. I gravitate towards abstraction via observation. The inspiration for my abstractions generally come from a mixture of patterns in nature and man-made objects. I filter which elements of my observations and experiences are brought into focus by removing unnecessary detail; often simplified into line, shape, color, and texture. The origins of some finished works reveal direct visual connections to my experiences, while others are more disguised, leaving room for interpretation. I keep my work moving forward by exploring different mediums regularly, not locking my practice into one mode of operating and by working on multiple series simultaneously.
