Lives and works in Lisboa, Portugal
Artist statement
In my work, I explore the boundaries of painting, where perception, memory, and space intersect. My practice is characterized by an experimental approach that combines additive and subtractive paint techniques on paper and materials such as iron, glass, and wood, resulting in installations that challenge the conventions of the two-dimensionality of painting. The forms that emerge in the paintings are not strictly figurative but inhabit a space of indeterminacy, where faces, patterns, and symbols intersect, allowing for multiple interpretations. I evoke the notion of apophenia, exploring the relationship between impression and memory, often resorting to symbolism, such as the shroud, to reflect on the relationship between form and meaning.
