Artist statement
“I consider myself a storyteller. With layers of texture created from paint, textiles, recycled materials, and images, my narratives emerge. I am a MIXED-MEDIA ARTIST and a PAPERMAKER. I embed antique lace textiles and found objects into my handmade paper, which serves as the basis for mixed-media collages, quilts, and paintings. Repurposing materials also supports my conscious practice of respecting the earth’s limited resources, which are now reflected in many of my works.” I was born into a multi-generational family of artisans and craftsmen. I studied drawing and painting at Herron School of Art and Design, Indiana / Purdue University, Indianapolis, IN; received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from California State University Long Beach, Long Beach, CA; and a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Care, and a Master of Arts in Education from Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, OK. My artwork can be found in private and public collections, including Novartis Headquarters Gallery, East Hanover, NJ; Atlantic Health Breast Centers at Morristown and Summit, NJ; Mahn Center Archives & Special Collections, Ohio State University, Athens, OH; and in the home of American music arranger and pianist Nat Adderley, Jr.
