Artist statement
My practice explores the relationship between the natural world and the inner landscapes of human experience. Through painting, I consider ideas of transformation, connection, belonging and the possibility of renewal, using nature as both subject and symbolic language. I work primarily through a combination of expressive painting and abstract realism, allowing recognisable forms, particularly wildlife, flora and landscape to emerge alongside more ambiguous, atmospheric elements. I am interested in the space between what can be seen and what can be felt: the unseen connections, transitions and emotional states that exist beneath everyday experience. My paintings often begin with observations of the natural world but develop intuitively through layering, mark-making and the interplay between representation and abstraction. Rather than illustrating a fixed narrative, I aim to create spaces in which meaning remains open, inviting the viewer to bring their own experiences and interpretations to the work. Across my practice, nature becomes a language for quiet transformation. I am drawn to moments of stillness, resilience and possibility, the sense that change can be occurring beneath the surface before it becomes visible. Through this, my work seeks to hold a space for contemplation and to explore the subtle, often unseen processes through which we become, reconnect and begin again.
