Artist statement

I paint in oil, watercolor and acrylic on paper, canvas and found objects. The pieces range from 6 x 6 inches to 4 by 4 feet. My paintings are raw and color-raucous tamed by careful composition. My photography and painting blur. I hope to help observers know how beautiful and terrifying our world was at one time. My work usually evolves in serial expressions...a re-designing of the same narrative until I exhaust or confound myself. I work with found objects and I take great delight in shooting sidewalk art. I studied at the Art Institute, Chicago where I grew up, near the University of Chicago. My undergraduate work was completed at the University of Wisconsin, where I completed two years in Fine Art but decided to complete my degree in Education. My Masters in Management and Leadership was earned at St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida. I worked as an Artist-In-Residence, promotions and graphic design for the Kansas City Star and provided free-lance work for Hallmark and other private clients.
