Lives and works in Nashville, TN
Artist statement
I am an interdisciplinary artist using words, music, light, visuals, and performance to explore the conditions of suffering and the path toward awakening. I was born to two deeply creative musicians and visual artists who each practiced diligently throughout their lives, creating large bodies of work despite never being known as working artists. The conditions of addiction, trauma, and mental illness kept them from finding success in their lifetimes. Their creative drive, and the unresolved pain that came with it, was passed down to me, the eldest daughter. I started making music and visual art around the time I learned to speak, and spent decades trying to find my own identity in my work, separate from my parents' unfulfilled desire for success. It wasn't until I hit rock bottom in my 30s, entered therapy and recovery, and developed a mindfulness practice that I found my voice and purpose as an artist. Since then, I've made work meant to feel immersive, cathartic, and therapeutic, bringing audiences fully into the present moment with their own thoughts and feelings. In Absence of Me, I reckon with the ego’s role in relationships. In Voyage, I meet my inner parts and make peace with them. In Letters to Our Unborn Children, created with Tarri Driver, child-free women speak to the children they chose not to have. My newest piece in development, Three Nested Bodies, traces the lineage of cells from grandmother to mother to daughter, and asks how healing ourselves might heal...
