Artist statement

Every year in just the U.S. alone 1 in 5 people are diagnosed with a mental illness. That’s over forty-three million people. As many people as that is, it’s still not an easy thing or even an acceptable thing to talk about. It needs to be talked about. With some people it could be the one thing they need, just someone to talk to. With my work I focus on showing what that person is always feeling versus how they act when they are trying to hide their “illness” because people with depression don’t want to face the social stigma surrounding mental illnesses. My pieces are a way to open that discussion and help people realize that they aren’t outcasts and that there are other people just like them and that they are not alone.
