Artist statement

My practice is research heavy and largely propositional, often culminating in installation/sculpture and sound. Core to my interests are vulnerabilities of masculinity, masochism, spectres of loss and displacement, the Sovereign body. Elements are bought into environments and work together with displacement to (un)form a rebus like space whose materials and sounds have been selected for their figural potential. Materials gathered form a pallet of a sinister matrix of the spectral mise en abyme. The symbolic excess and the abundance of overlying meanings are deposited like folds obstructing the smooth surface of reality, deferring the moment of unveiling truth. Many elements such as rubber, fat or more unconventionally, the synthetic scent of a drowned cadaver as used in the training of sniffer dogs, point to specific processes by which certain materials, being politically charged have by way of leaking, and context, become subverted. Ultimately the subject always returns to the body, the corporeal.
