Artist statement

As the late Barry Commoner put it, ‘everything is connected to everything else’. I view my practice as an act of participation in the biological world and work from the premise that everything is an event in nature. Creation is an act of intuition filtered through what we know and see, and how our bodies work in conjunction. When I am making I am fully alive and engaged in being: I am a biological creature in an act of destiny. My lyrical abstract paintings are imaginary biological events, states of being, often expressions of the commonly unobservable and the pure interplay between abstraction and phenomenon. My installation and video work is an extension of that interplay, often expressing a more pointed wonder about our relationship to our environment and it’s resources. I strive to make work that remains in the realm of possibility and transformation, even as I convey information. Experience has made clear that what is within and without us is teaming with drama that we are just a small part of. To a large extent my work is a kind of homage to this fact.
