Artist statement
Shay Arick is a cross-disciplinary Israeli artist based in New York. His practice combines photography, sculpture, performance, video and drawing in order to explore issues of violence, social taboos, political conflicts, and human behaviors. Shay’s most recent project is a photograph series of sculpted plants. He collected flowers and weeds from the fields around his temporary home in the mountains of Jerusalem. He cut stems, connected leaves, and assembled the various parts into new kinds of plants. He photographed each of his new ephemeral constructions and developed a new work series based on Israeli flora.
