Artist statement

Steingrímur Gauti Ingólfsson °1986, lives and works in Reykjavík, Iceland. "My practice mostly revolves around the studio. I usually just start working on a canvas and the work takes me where it wants to go. The painting itself is a living thing, just waiting to grow. Inspiration is not so important to me, but hard work I feel is underestimated. I just show up, start working and something happens. In some way it is a form of meditation. Painting as a way of thinking or non-thinking. I think with my hands and the rest follows. I usually have a few paintings that I am working on at the same time, so some of them have a very similar atmosphere. They breathe the same air. They reflect mundane things and what's going on around me. The silent notes and the feelings I don't have any words for. It is great not to have to put some things into words. " Steingrímur Gauti graduated with a BFA from Iceland University of the Arts in 2015, having also studied at Universität der Künste in Berlin and Reykjavík School of Visual Arts.
