Artist statement
I use analogue photography as a medium for self-reflection and anchoring myself in a moment. I want to get involved - in a moment, in a presence - and trace a genuineness or truthfulness, also in the hope of discovering something in the photograph that remained hidden from the moment the picture was taken. The self-portrait or self-staging is a central element in my work, which on the one hand has the character of a diary, but on the other hand also makes use of staged moments and explores attributions of identity and mental-spiritual constitutions. I leave this intimate terrain when I follow conceptually experimental approaches within analogue film development, the results of which in turn produce the unexpected. Here I am particularly interested in the materiality and the relationship between image, image carrier and the traces and overwritings through procedures of treatment, processing and ageing.
