Artist statement
It’s how you look at it. I find the challenge of creating new work within the traditional confines of ‘a blank canvas’ continually appealing. In this series, I have progressed to a point where I can offer more by providing less. Through the physical flat surface of the painting, I present a platform for interaction by the viewer in that a 'way in' is suggested. The picture plane can be mentally entered, the corner rounded to arrive in the space behind. The Back Space: where deals are made, secrets kept, refuge awaits, solitude resides. If there were a narrative to these pieces, it is supplied by the viewer.
