Artist statement

I photographs the space between moments—when light shifts, when weather turns, when something ordinary begins to feel unfamiliar. Within the vastness of land, the presence of people, and the quiet weight of objects, I search for instances where time seems to pause, suspended in a fragile and fleeting stillness. About: Where the Gods Play In my photographic series, Where the Gods Play, my images are photographic collaborations with time, tide, wind, and chance—records of transient worlds that appear, vanish, and reappear in an endless cycle of creation and dissolution. Working with what is essentially a monochromatic palette, I distill these granular sections of a beach on the island of Marthas Vineyard into black-and-white photographs. Stripped of distraction, the images invite contemplation of their quiet poetry and stark beauty. They remind us that nature is in constant flux, creating moments of extraordinary complexity and wonder that exist only briefly before being reclaimed by the sea. After visiting this beach now for over 5 years, I have become acutely aware that climate change continues to alter the shape of our coastlines, creating opportunity to witness the intrinsic beauty as well as the erosion and destruction of our natural habitats.
