Artist statement
Susan Osgood Artist Statement I am an abstract painter and printmaker. My work is informed by color, light, atmosphere, lines, maps, paths, rivers, the concept of mapping, and organic systems like breath and the flow of water. A love of traveling − within as well as out into the world − is something I gleaned from growing up in rural New Hampshire. Thriving on the abundant wildlife, waterways, forests, and fields, and developing a heightened awareness and a deep curiosity have indelibly marked the way I experience and create. For me making art is a form of travel, giving the sense of being in unfamiliar territory and the wonder of discovery. Many places, feelings, ideas, sensations, and memories are inspirations, but in the end each piece must work, come together, and have a life of its own.
