Lives and works in Berlin, Germany
Artist statement
The basis of my work is the activity of making as externalized and embodied thinking. I spend lot of time with my paintings, often physically building them over months. I extensively sew bits of canvas together, painting on them along the way. I view the surface of my work as an imaginal swamp; they are murky reservoirs from which fragments of perception float up and appear. Oftentimes, I add a female figure as my surrogate, she inhabits the paintings in my place and lives amongst the fragments and vignettes, ideally disobediently sprawled across the structure. These paintings also have many playful and delightful properties. Some squeak, some of them glow in the dark or have hidden images. They reach onto their surroundings in sculptural ways and some even escalate into full on multi-facetted installations.
